Struggling to Build a Team? Start With the Brand You Already Have.

How Social Media Can Help You Recruit, Scale, and Build a Team That Sticks

MELISSA ROMIZA

If you’re in solar sales and trying to grow a team—but feel like you’re spinning your wheels—you’re not alone.

Building a team from scratch can feel overwhelming, especially if you think you need to have it all figured out before you even begin. But here’s the truth: you don’t have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great.

That’s where the power of social media comes in. It’s not just for selfies, sales numbers, and inspiration quotes (though I post those too). When used strategically, social media can become your most powerful recruiting tool—one that builds your brand, attracts the right people, and helps your team scale fast.

Start Where You Are—And Just Start

When I first started building a team, I didn’t have all the answers. What I did have was a willingness to show up consistently.

I began by posting my sales numbers in my Instagram stories. Not to flex, but to show the daily grind, the wins, the momentum. I didn’t overthink it. I didn’t wait for everything to be “perfect.” I just started.

And that consistency turned into credibility. People began to take notice. They saw the results, the discipline, the growth—and they became curious.

“People won’t follow you just because you’re good at what you do. They follow you because of who you’re becoming.”

Make It Personal: Share the Journey, Not Just the Wins

Once you start sharing, don’t stop at the numbers.

Post the team meetings. The coaching calls. The incentive trips. The “firsts” your reps are experiencing. This is what brings people in. Yes, they want to see results—but they also want to feel the culture.

When one of my reps bought their first home, I posted it. When another won their first Golden Door, it was up that same day. These moments matter—not just for recognition, but because they signal possibility to others.

"People aren’t just joining your company. They’re joining your energy, your leadership, your lifestyle."

Build a Brand That Attracts—Then Market It Loudly

Once you’re showing up consistently and highlighting more than just sales stats, it’s time to be intentional about recruiting.

Let your audience know you’re building something. You’re not just “open to hiring”—you’re actively creating opportunity.

For my team, we used what I call “blitzes”—high-energy recruiting events where new people could come experience our team’s culture with zero pressure to commit right away.

We’d hype these up on our Instagram stories, share a Jotform link to register, and tag leaders to expand our reach. The energy and urgency pulled people in—fast.

Pro tip: Tag your leaders in stories so your audience becomes their audience. Leverage the network effect—this is how you multiply recruiting efforts without multiplying your hours.

Set Expectations Early—And Stick to Them

Here’s the deal: recruiting fast doesn’t mean recruiting sloppy. You still need to protect your team culture.

Before anyone joined a blitz, we made our expectations crystal clear:

• You’re either all in or all out.

• Two-week full commitment required.

• One-strike policy—no energy vampires allowed.

We weren’t being harsh. We were protecting what we built. And the people who did come in? They respected the process more because of that clarity.

"When people know the standard from Day 1, they’re more likely to rise to it."

Retain Talent with Culture, Support, and Real Results

Recruiting is only half the game. Retention is where most teams fall apart.

It’s not enough to bring people in. You have to give them a reason to stay—and grow.

For us, that meant:

  • A tightly run blitz model with structure and leadership.

  • Daily check-ins and mentorship for new reps.

  • Celebrating wins—big or small—every single week.

  • A culture where people feel seen, supported, and part of something real.

When someone had a tough day, they had someone to call. When someone crushed their first close, they had 10 people cheering them on.

"You don’t retain reps with contracts. You retain them with community."

This Isn’t Just Recruiting—It’s Legacy Building

Here’s the real takeaway: building a brand isn’t a vanity project. It’s a vehicle.

A vehicle that attracts the right people. A system that scales with you. A platform that reflects your values—and amplifies your vision.

So, if you’re struggling to build a team right now, I want to challenge you:

  • Start showing up.

  • Share the wins.

  • Be transparent about what you’re building.

  • Set the bar high—and hold the line.

When someone had a tough day, they had someone to call. When someone crushed their first close, they had 10 people cheering them on.

"You don’t retain reps with contracts. You retain them with community."

Final Takeaways

  • Start where you are—don’t wait for perfection.

  • Use Instagram stories to document results, growth, and culture.

  • Highlight team wins as much as your own.

  • Run high-energy blitzes and promote them well.

  • Protect your culture by setting clear expectations.

  • Retain with support and structure, not pressure.
